New Sailing Courses at GBYC – Set Sail This Spring

The sails are going up, the breeze is calling, and Geographe Bay Yacht Club is ready to welcome a new wave of sailors. Whether you’re completely new to sailing, want your kids to give it a go, or are keen to sharpen your skills, our Discover Sailing training courses are the perfect place to start.

Courses Start Mid-October

Our 6-week Learn to Sail program kicks off mid-October, running every Saturday morning from 8:30am – 12:00pm (with a possible skip-week if racing clashes – we’ll let you know in advance).

Cost: $299 per person (all equipment included).

Each course is delivered at our Australian Sailing-accredited Discover Sailing Centre by qualified instructors, giving you nationally recognised training in a safe and supportive environment.

Courses on Offer

Tackers (Ages 7–12)

Kids don’t need any experience or club membership – just a sense of fun.

• Tackers 1: Learn the basics through games and fun activities

• Tackers 2: Progress your skills and confidence on the water

All equipment and boats are provided, and sessions are run in small groups by qualified instructors.

Teens & Adults – Learn to Sail Dinghies

Dinghies are small, exciting sailing boats that give you hands-on control and a real sense of adventure. Perfect for teenagers and adults of any age.

• Learn to Sail 1: For complete beginners or those wanting a refresher

• Learn to Sail 2: Build on your skills and confidence to take the next step in your sailing journey

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to register for the Adult Learn to Sail 1 Course but you can follow this for the Tackers 1 course too.

Step 1 – Register with Australian Sailing (free insurance cover)

1. Click this link: Adult Learn to Sail 1

2. Click on “New to Australian Sailing – Sign Up”.

3. On the Membership page, click “New Member”.

4. Select Full Membership.

5. Scroll down and choose Course Participant – $0 (this gives you free insurance).

6. Follow the prompts to complete and confirm your registration.

Step 2 – Register for the GBYC Course

1. Continue to now register and pay for the course.

2. Payment of $299 for the 6-week course is made at the end.

Did you know? GBYC is a KidsSport Club, meaning eligible families can apply for vouchers to cover course fees.
