Tackers 1 Having Fun - October 2026

Tackers is a fun introductory, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7-12 years-old. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience or club membership to participate. 

  Delivered by experienced and engaging instructors with all equipment provided

  Building resilience, independence & confidence

This course will run from  8.30am to Noon - for 6 weeks every Saturday (except when we have regattas - ALWAYS check with your instructor)

This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for ENROLING: You will be asked to register your child for an Australian Sailing number when enroling.

Why do I need an AUSTRALIAN SAILING NUMBER for my child when registering? It provides free insurance and you are provided this number when you enrol. This number stays with your child and can go to any sailing club in Australia.  When enroling you will be asked for an Australian Sailing number or Apply for an Australian Sailing number.  Follow the links, record your child's Sailing number.

Remember to use your child's name and details when enrolling (there will be a section for Parents/emergency contacts)

Once you begin registration for this course for your child you will be taken to our membership page - Choose Course Participant ($0) then continue to fill out the registration and then you will be asked to pay for the course.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
