Geographe Bay Yacht Club Sets Sail on new adventure with extension

Published Tue 12 Sep 2023

The Geographe Bay Yacht Club(GBYC) is thrilled to announce an ambitious alfresco extension initiative to allow more members, locals, and community groups to enjoy their venue on Geographe Bay.

Embracing the spirit of progress and community unity, the Geographe Yacht Club unveils its vision for a new extension of the verandah area and creating an exceptional gathering space for members, guests, and community groups. The plan is to extend the verandah area by 6m to level out the grass area, build a retaining wall, and allow more tables and chairs for people to enjoy the view. The Project will be done in 3 stages with the first stage currently underway.

You are invited to be a vital part of this transformation by becoming a contributor to their fundraising project.

All funds raised will go to the extension, including building walls, furniture, balustrading, and sun sails. The Club hopes to raise $60,000 to fund the project. All donations are tax deductable, gratefully received, and needed to be able to finish this project as soon as possible for the new season. The first 8 people or companies who donate more than $1000 will have a special engraved plaque on new solid wood picnic tables with their name or logo on it.

GBYC extends an invitation to local businesses to sponsor the club that supports community organisations and fosters an environment of inclusivity and connection.

“We are so proud to have achieved the start of stage 1.  We are a not-for-profit and run by volunteers ,” said GBYC Commodore Anton Mann.

“This couldn’t have happened without lots of people volunteering their time to which the committee are so grateful.”

The Yacht Club is a Not-for-Profit organisation and all funds raised, including venue hire, events and members fees go straight back into the club.  The club is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate 1000’s of hours running the yacht club, including racing, regattas, learn to sail courses and making it an enjoyable and welcoming place for members and guests.  This extension will allow the club to open its doors to more members to enjoy the amazing view of Geographe.

The Geographe Bay Yacht Clubs alfresco expansion isn’t just about physical transformation, it’s a testament to the Club’s commitment to embracing locals and fostering inclusivity.  This space isn’t limited to sailors alone, it is open to all who would like to join as social members and enjoy a respite from the ordinary.  Social memberships are only $30per person for a whole sailing season year from September 2023 – August 2024.

The Yacht Club is open for dinner every Friday and Saturday night for dinner during the sailing season and plans to be open for Sunday Sessions over Summer.  The club runs social events, including New Year Eve, live music, themed fundraising nights and hire the venue out to members for events.  To be become a member go to www.gbyc.com.au/membership
