As we prepare for the new membership year, we would like to remind all Geographe Bay Yacht Club members — both Sailing and Social — of an important responsibility that comes with being a member of the Club.

Membership means agreeing to abide by the rules

When you become a member of Geographe Bay Yacht Club, you agree to be bound by the Club’s Constitution and By-Laws. All members are expected to read, understand and abide by these rules as part of their membership.

The Constitution and By-Laws set out the framework for how our Club operates, as well as the responsibilities, expectations and conduct that apply to members.

This applies to every member, regardless of whether you are a Sailing or Social member, whether you are actively involved in sailing, or how long you have been a member.

When was the last time you read them?

For newer members, reading the Constitution and By-Laws is an important part of understanding what you have agreed to as a member.

For our long-standing members, it may have been some time since you last read them. Rules can change, and the current Constitution and By-Laws may not be the same as the versions that were in place when you first joined the Club.

That is why we are asking all members — new and long-standing — to take the time to read the current documents and make sure you are familiar with the rules that apply today.

Understanding the rules helps everyone know what is expected, assists our members and volunteers in making consistent decisions, and helps ensure the Club operates fairly and smoothly.

Know your responsibilities as a member

Being a member of GBYC comes with rights, privileges and responsibilities. Abiding by the Club’s Constitution and By-Laws is one of those responsibilities.
