The Geographe Bay Yacht Club (GBYC) held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 3 June, welcoming a strong turnout of members and supporters to celebrate another incredible year for the club and vote a new committee in.
Outgoing Commodore Anton Mann was formally recognised for completing his full three-year term as Commodore—a period marked by transformational growth and leadership. Under Anton’s guidance, GBYC has seen:
- A significant rise in membership
- The construction of the now much-loved alfresco area
- Hosting of numerous State and National regattas
- Expansion of Learn to Sail programs
- Successful grant applications and strengthened collaboration with the City of Busselton
While stepping down from the Commodore role, Anton will continue in a leadership position as Vice Commodore, with Peter Togno stepping up to lead the club as the new Commodore.
The 2025 GBYC Committee was formally announced as follows:
- Commodore: Peter Togno
- Vice Commodore: Anton Mann
- Rear Commodore – Sailing: Simon Green
- Rear Commodore – Juniors: Greig Fowler
- Rear Commodore – Race Week: Scott Olney
- Rear Commodore – Social: Chris Togno
- Secretary: Clare Conlon
- Treasurer: Tania Adams
- Bosun: Jim Jewell
- Bosun – On Water: Rod Smirk
- General Committee Members: Zac Nicols, Michael Conlon, Cam Waters, Ben Roodhouse, Barry Brown, and Terry Compton
Special thanks were extended to Cam Waters, who stepped down as Rear Commodore Sailing after a successful term in which he organised a busy sailing calendar, major State and National regattas and developed digital online systems in house that improved committee operations. Cam will continue to serve on the general committee.
The club also welcomed Zac Nicols and his partner Dee as the new Caretakers, who move into the upstairs apartment above the training room, taking over from outgoing caretaker Jeff.
With a strong and passionate committee in place, GBYC is well positioned to continue building on its momentum.
The new membership season begins 1 September 2025, and the official start of the sailing season and Opening Day is Saturday 1 November 2025.
GBYC looks forward to another exciting year of sailing, social events, and community connection.
