Why Your Membership Matters More Than Ever

As winter draws to a close, the Geographe Bay Yacht Club is gearing up for another exciting season on the water — and we’re inviting you to be part of it. Whether you’re a sailor, paddler, fisherman, or a social member who just loves the view from the clubhouse, your membership is what keeps our club thriving.

This season, Social Memberships are open now, and Sailing Memberships will be available from 1 September 2025. You may notice that membership fees have gone up slightly — and we want to be upfront about why. Our club is a not-for-profit, run largely by volunteers, and every dollar from your membership goes straight back into maintaining and improving the facilities you love.

Why the Increase?

Over the past year, we’ve seen a growing need for upgrades and repairs. From essential building maintenance to ongoing renovations that keep our facilities safe, welcoming, and functional, these costs are part of making sure we can offer the best possible experience for everyone. Your membership contribution ensures we can continue to:

• Maintain and improve our clubhouse, training rooms, and amenities

• Care for our grassed areas and beach access points

• Support sailing programs for juniors, beginners, and experienced sailors alike

• Host vibrant social events and community programs

• Keep our club safe, inclusive, and welcoming to all

It’s More Than Just a Membership

When you join the GBYC, you’re not just buying access to events or facilities, you’re investing in a community. You’re helping young sailors learn the ropes, giving local volunteers the resources they need, and keeping a historic local club alive for future generations.

Social Memberships are perfect for those who love the club atmosphere but don’t plan to sail, while Sailing Memberships provide access to racing, training, and boat storage options. Crew memberships, casual crew passes, and Australian Sailing registrations help keep our racing safe, fair, and compliant with national standards.

Your Support Makes a Difference

Without members, there is no club. Each renewal, each new member, and each small contribution adds up to something much bigger,  a community hub on the shores of Geographe Bay that brings people together on and off the water.

So, as we head into the new season, we encourage you to renew your membership early and invite friends, family, and colleagues to join. Together, we can keep the GBYC strong, vibrant, and ready for another year of sailing, paddling, fishing, and fun.
